Baptist, John the

Baptist, John the
   John the Baptist (John the Baptizer) was the precursor or herald, who baptized Jesus in the Jordan River at the beginning of Jesus' public ministry. After his Resurrection, Jesus instructed his followers to make disciples of all nations and baptize them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit (see Mt 28:19).
